Former center of military and political power in Fuerteventura.

The Casa de Los Coroneles is located in la Oliva ,in the north of Fuerteventura, since the 18th century, when it was built as a residence for those who exercised military and therefore,political power on the island.

 

It is a construction that stands out greatly on the extensive and arid plain on which it is located ,not only for its large dimensions,but also for its historical importance . It is
the longest house preserved in the archipelago, and it has been declared both Historic- Artistic Monument and a site of cultural interest.

 

 

Currently the Casa de Los Coroneles hosts various exhibitions and different cultural events.

Iglesia Nuestra Señora de la  Candelaria

The church is located in La Oliva. Was build in the 17th century. Is distinguished by the white of the exterior walls that contrast with the black of the volcanic stone in the tower next to it.

 

The bell tower also served as a watchtower for possible warning of pirate attacks.

Inside we can observe five oil paintings on canvas that are attributed to the painter Juan de Miranda, considered the most important painter in the Canary Islands in the 18th century.
